Chandigarh, known as the ‘City Beautiful’ is a city in North India and a union territory that serves as the capital of both neighboring states of Haryana and Punjab. Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex was in July 2016 declared by UNESCO as World Heritage at the 40th session of World Heritage Conference held in Istanbul. UNESCO inscription was under “The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier an outstanding contribution to the Modern Movement”.

The city has one of the highest per capita income in the country. The city was reported to be one of the cleanest in India based on a national government study.The union territory also heads the list of Indian states and territories according to Human Development Index.

Chandigarh is well connected to New Delhi and Mumbai by air and train services.

Chandigarh International Airport is an international airport which serves the Union Territory Chandigarh and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The airport runway is located in the Union territory of Chandigarh while the international terminal is located on the south side of the runway in the village of Jhiurheri, Mohali, Punjab. As of July 2017, there are 36 domestic departures and 2 international departures from this airport.
